"On Point"
MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – U.S. President Donald Trump is guided by the principle that he must always appear to be the strongest and most successful, political analyst Alexey Naumov, the author of the Telegram project Vneshpol, said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“The Republican Party is not a monolith. Within the party, there is a wing of rather radical supporters for continuing the conflict, radical supporters of Ukraine. It is known that Marco Rubio, who serves as both Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, has somewhat ‘hawkish’ views,” said Alexey Naumov. “Certainly, Trump cannot back down in the face of this party faction. In any situation, Trump must appear as the smartest, the strongest, the most successful. By applying this logic to analyze any of his actions, we will almost never be mistaken.”
Speaking about Donald Trump's strategy regarding the conflict in Ukraine, the political analyst expressed the opinion that the situation is not a dead end for the U.S. leader. “He is selling weapons, earning money for the American budget, and not spending money on supporting Ukraine. He will say: ‘I tried [to end the conflict in Ukraine], I spoke with both Putin and Zelensky, but they are unwilling for some reason”,” he said.
Furthermore, Alexey Naumov believes the U.S. president could use the confrontation with Russia to squeeze it out of the energy resources market. “Even his electoral base, his supporters, the Make America Great Again movement, are not demanding a resolution to this issue. They are much more concerned with matters of domestic policy,” the political analyst said.
