Top Belarusian senator meets with Kazakhstan parliament delegation

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova talked about the main avenues of interaction between Belarus and Kazakhstan as she met with a delegation of the Kazakhstan parliament led by Chairman of the Mazhilis (the lower chamber of the Kazakh parliament) Yerlan Koshanov on 5 February, BelTA has learned.
Natalya Kochanova said: “Belarus and Kazakhstan are connected by kind and friendly ties. Largely thanks to our presidents these relations are strategic: we cooperate in absolutely all areas.”

She said she was confident that Belarus-Kazakhstan cooperation would be preserved and would develop. “In this complicated world it is important for us to be friends, to communicate, to interact on international platforms. Very fruitful and constructive interaction across the board is truly evolving between us,” said the head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament. As an example she mentioned interaction within the framework of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Inter-Parliamentary Union as well as cooperation between the legislative bodies and their domain-specific commissions.
Natalya Kochanova recalled that the prime minister of Belarus visited Kazakhstan in November 2025. A number of bilateral documents were signed back then. Kazakhstan’s prime minister visited Belarus in November 2024. The parties signed a roadmap on advancing trade and economic cooperation. “Today we have good legal framework for interaction between our states. More than 80 documents have been signed,” she stressed.

The speaker pointed out that as a chamber of territorial representation the Council of the Republic pays priority attention to the advancement of interregional cooperation and twinning ties. For instance, regions of Belarus and Kazakhstan have signed over 30 agreements on cooperation. 2025 saw a memorandum of cooperation signed between the administration of Kazakhstan’s Almaty Oblast and the administration of Vitebsk Oblast as well as an action plan between the administrations of the cities of Minsk and Astana. “If we organize a Belarus-Kazakhstan forum of regions, then the result would be remarkable, I am sure. We have huge potential,” Natalya Kochanova noted.
She also mentioned interaction in humanitarian affairs, in particular, the Train of Memory project, in which kids from Kazakhstan have taken part as well. “It is our common history. Last year we jointly celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War [of 1941-1945],” the chairwoman of the Council of the Republic said. Natalya Kochanova stressed that future cooperation hinges on interaction between young people. “If young people become friends with each other, if they know their history, then we are confident that the good relations that exist between our countries today will continue despite everything going on in the world,” the speaker of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament said.
