BREST, 12 September (BelTA) – Even the sky sheds tears over the stupidity of Polish authorities. The former Polish judge Tomasz Szmydt made the statement as he commented on the Polish authorities’ decision to close the border with Belarus, BelTA has learned.
Tomasz Szmydt said: “When I read what happened, I simply returned from Moscow. I’ve just come. I arrived in Minsk, later on in Brest to see how true it is. But look! Even the sky sheds tears over the stupidity of Polish authorities [it was raining at the time].”

The Polish government mentioned the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2025 as the reason for the decision to close the border with Belarus. Tomasz Szmydt described the reasoning as pure drivel. “You saw that ordinary people were over there. For instance, tourists that come with their families, with kids in order to meet. There is no logic in this decision. The Polish government simply wants to exacerbate relations between Poland and Belarus,” he noted.
“President Aleksandr Lukashenko always says that we are neighbors given by God, that we should be friends. But no one over there [in Poland] understands it. I am irritated by it. I wanted to see with my own eyes whether they would truly close the border. And here I look at the last buses with people. They had not been allowed to enter,” he was indignant.
