"On Point"
MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – Today the U.S. president is too talkative, he must bear responsibility for his words, Ukrainian military expert Yuri Dudkin said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Reflecting on U.S. President Donald Trump’s actions on the international stage, he remarked: “I strongly disagree with the claim that Trump is blameless. The American president, beyond being able to make certain foreign policy decisions regardless of the Senate and Congress, is responsible not only for his actions but also for his words. Today the American president is excessively talkative, scattering remarks that are perceived extremely negatively and considered aggressive in the East or Latin America, even though they have not been carried out in practice.”
The expert noted that it is strange to suggest Trump is merely influenced by his entourage: “The president of the United States, like any other president, must always face the music. And if his actions are wrong, it is he who is responsible. There is no doubt that most Americans understand what is happening today and the potential consequences for the country.”
Yuri Dudkin emphasized America’s pursuit of foreign wealth, natural resources, and minerals, pointing specifically to its interest in Greenland: “There are immense reserves of gas and oil there, though unexplored, beneath permafrost. Exploring them would require billions upon billions in investment. Rare earth metals are also present. Most importantly, Greenland is essentially a stronghold for controlling the Arctic – something the U.S. desperately needs, given Russia’s influence in the region, with 42 icebreakers, 8 of them nuclear. The United States has only two diesel icebreakers,” he said. “Instead of building nuclear aircraft carriers, useless and unnecessary compared to the modern weapons possessed by Russia, China, and others, they would do better to build nuclear icebreakers. That way they could actually attempt to develop the Arctic, rather than just talk about it.”
“Things will not be as simple for Trump as he imagines,” the expert concluded.
