Tashkent lions make home at Minsk Zoo

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – A couple of African lions have been brought by plane from the Tashkent Zoo to the Minsk Zoo, BelTA learned from the Minsk Zoo.

The animals were brought to Minsk under an exchange agreement. Several raccoons, barn owls, Burmese pythons and several dozen rodents were sent to Uzbekistan from Minsk.

The lion cub is named Arthur, and the lioness Nika. Both animals are about one and a half years old. They are active and curious. Their enclosure, where the lioness Kisa already lives, has been provided with special "toys" - green fir trees, car tires, and a ball. These “toys” arouse an increased interest in lions. After the flight which the animals endured well, they quickly settled in a new place and show an enviable appetite. The lions eat meat, eggs and milk every day.

After the young lions got used to the inner enclosure, they were released into a fenced enclosure next to the central alley where they can be seen by visitors. Now the new ‘dwellers' have a period of adaptation.

The Minsk Zoo has been open since 1984. There are both exotic animals and rare species of Belarusian fauna, a total of about 2,000 animals of 500 species.
