MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Tourism is one of the promising areas of cooperation with Belarus, Governor of Russia’s Kemerovo Oblast - Kuzbass Ilya Seredyuk told the media following his meeting with the Belarusian head of state in Minsk on 23 June, BelTA has learned.
“We see the importance of preserving historical memory and patriotic work. This work is carried out in Kuzbass, as well. But we rarely visit other territories. Therefore, we will use the invitation to visit the memorable places of Belarus. In turn, we are looking forward to welcoming tourists on our ski slopes: we have a very long season. The number of tourists from Belarus is increasing, and we are waiting for them,” the governor of Kemerovo Oblast said.
He spoke about plans to build a new airport near the village of Sheregesh, which is known for its ski resort. “We have prospects for opening direct flights that would bring tourists to Kuzbass,” said Ilya Seredyuk.

Despite the fact that Ilya Seredyuk has visited Belarus for the first time, he is familiar with the country and many of its citizens, because the parties have long and closely cooperated in the industrial sector.
Speaking about the impressions of his stay in Belarus, the governor of Kuzbass noted the development of infrastructure and well-maintained cities. He paid special attention to the improvement of memorial sites and military graves.
At the meeting with the Belarusian president Ilya Seredyuk shared his family story. According to the governor, his great grand uncle died in the vicinity of the village of Filipovichi in Minsk Oblast in 1942. During his visit, Ilya Seredyuk visited the village (there is an obelisk in honor of soldiers and partisans there) to commemorate his relative and all Soviet soldiers who gave their lives for the Motherland.
“On my way there, I saw many monuments, memorial sites, small graves and crosses in a neat state, how reverent the locals are about these places,” said Ilya Seredyuk.
