MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – As many as 13 countries, including from BRICS, have joined Russia and China’s work to create an international scientific lunar station, TASS quoted Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Bakanov as saying.

At a meeting of heads of space agencies of BRICS countries Dmitry Bakanov said: “Our joint initiative with China to create an international scientific lunar station is vigorously advancing.” In his words, 13 countries have already joined it. Those are Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bolivia, Venezuela, Djibouti, Egypt, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Senegal, Serbia, Thailand, South Africa, and Ethiopia. Including colleagues from BRICS (Ethiopia, Egypt, and South Africa).

Dmitry Bakanov remarked that Russia has unique scientific schools in the field of studying Venus, the Moon and Mars. He also emphasized that no one in the world has yet replicated the Russian technology of landing on Venus. According to the Roscosmos head, Russia’s technological accomplishments in the field of deep space exploration can become the basis for BRICS international programs.

He noted that spacecraft of India, UAE, and China have reached Mars. These countries also have experience in lunar exploration. Dmitry Bakanov hopes that the number of such programs will grow, and their joint implementation will become more cost-efficient for national budgets and more efficient from the scientific point of view.

The Roscosmos head also called for cooperation in preparing the human resources potential in space industry and related industries and the development of joint student programs. According to Dmitry Bakanov, more than 85,000 students from BRICS countries now study at Russian universities. More than half of them are from China and India.
