MINSK, 10 December (BelTA) – Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) holds a strong and respected position in the nuclear sector of the Belarus-Russia Union State, Adviser to the Director General of the Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom Grigory Rapota said during a festive meeting of the BNTU Council to mark the university’s 105th anniversary, BelTA has learned.
Grigory Rapota noted that BNTU has made a significant contribution to the work of the Union State. “BNTU holds a worthy place among scientific and technical universities not only in Belarus, but also in Russia and even beyond the Union State. This is evident, among other things, through the Forum of Scientific and Technical Universities, which BNTU has been hosting for 13 years. Nowadays, within the CIS framework, Belarusian National Technical University has been designated as a base higher education institution for scientific and technical professions,” he said.
According to the adviser, Belarus has become one of the active participants in the nuclear sector. “The Union State has a program for space exploration and the creation of Earth remote-sensing satellites. These are areas directly linked to Belarusian industry and BNTU. For the nuclear sector, a critical area is communications and ensuring interaction along the Northern Sea Route, and BNTU plays a strong role here. The nuclear industry today is very broad, including microelectronics and instrument engineering. All of this supports the peaceful atom, which is why we greatly value our cooperation with Belarus in general and with BNTU in particular,” Grigory Rapota emphasized.
Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Shcherbakov touched upon not only manufacturing, but also education and science. “The tasks set by the head of state at the recent meeting with the scientific community relate to supplying the real sector of the economy and our industry with new developments, equipment prototypes, materials and digital models. These tasks are also for young people, helping them to understand how to direct their studies and where to go. Graduates of BNTU are in demand, as they are needed to build our technological sovereignty through the implementation of new technologies. BNTU graduates, students and applicants have a great future, but to truly find their place, they must study well and become highly qualified professionals,” he said.
Festive events to celebrate BNTU’s 105th anniversary have been taking place at the university since the beginning of the week. Two joint laboratories with the Peleng enterprise have already opened, as well as a spiritual and educational center.
A festive meeting of the BNTU council was held at the university. To mark the 105th anniversary, the council decided to award Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, the title of Honorary Doctor of BNTU. The metropolitan, in turn, presented the rector with a copy of the Cross of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk as a gift to the university.
Later today, BNTU will open a gallery of its scientific schools, followed by an international conference Scientific and Technological Trends in Economic Development and Training the Workforce of the Future.
