MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – The process of reconciliation and clarification continues in order to cancel roaming charges in the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Chairman of the Information Policy Commission Andrei Naumovich made the relevant statement during the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 17 June, BelTA has learned.
The sides have come to terms on the main approaches within the framework of the action plan on cancelling roaming charges in the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Andrei Naumovich reminded that on 26 February the High-Level Group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia recommended that the relevant ministries should submit an agreed stance on cancelling roaming charges for consideration of the Belarusian and Russian governments. “However, the ministries failed to execute this decision due to different understandings of the matters, which content each side sent for consideration of the governments of Belarus and Russia in late March. The process of reconciliation and clarification continues right now,” Andrei Naumovich said.
Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko noted that cancelling roaming charges is a complicated matter because interests of the state, the private sector, and ordinary citizens are at stake. “Approaches have not been found for now, although proposals are available. The matter will be forwarded for consideration of the Council of Ministers of the Union State,” the speaker said. Nevertheless, the Union State MPs will closely monitor progress in cancelling roaming charges.
