MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – The Prosecutor General's Office makes a significant contribution to preserving the historical memory of heroism of Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko said at a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, BelTA has learned.
“This year, our country is celebrating a milestone event - the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The Prosecutor General's Office makes a big contribution to preserving the memory of our ancestors' heroism, to combating extremism and Nazism. An investigation is underway into the genocide of Belarusian people. New evidence suggests that the scale of the atrocities committed by the fascists is much bigger than one could expect,” Igor Sergeyenko noted.
The body of evidence obtained during the investigation of the criminal case laid the basis for a number of awareness raising projects, publications and films prepared by the Prosecutor General's Office, the speaker emphasized. “These and other materials are used by MPs when conducting awareness raising campaigns and public outreach events, communication with voters, primarily young people,” said Igor Sergeyenko.
