Preparations for 2nd forum of regions of Belarus, Ukraine discussed

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – The first session of the Belarusian-Ukrainian working group on interregional and transboundary cooperation took place in Zhitomir on 25 April, representatives of the Belarusian embassy in Ukraine told BelTA.

The Belarusian delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the regional administrations and the Minsk city administration, the border and customs services, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and social structures. The Ukrainian side was represented by top officials of Kiev Oblast, Zhitomir Oblast, Chernigov Oblast, Rovno Oblast, Lvov Oblast, and Volyn Oblast, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Regional Development Ministry, the Infrastructure Ministry, the border and customs services, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and non-governmental organizations.

Participants of the meeting discussed preparations for the 2nd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine, which will take place in Zhitomir in early October upon proposals of Ukrainian partners. Participants of the meeting visited the venues where events of the forum are supposed to take place.

The operation of checkpoints at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border was discussed in detail.

Representatives of the regional administrations and the chambers of commerce and industry put forward proposals regarding further advancement of interregional cooperation in order to sign concrete agreements during the forum.

The regions of Belarus and Ukraine have signed over 110 agreements on partnership and cooperation. The chambers of commerce and industry and their branches have signed about 100 cooperation agreements.
