Positive economic effect of Belarusian nuclear power plant construction in Ostrovets District

SOCHI, 16 April (BelTA) – The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant accounts for virtually half of the Ostrovets District budget revenues, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the Ostrovets District Executive Committee Viktor Svillo during the Atomexpo forum in Sochi on 16 April.

The official said: “The money we receive from the nuclear power plant under construction is comparable to half of the district's budget's revenue. It comes in the form of taxes paid by the commercial entities involved in the project.”

The money injected by the central state budget every year exceeds the district's budget by roughly 50%. For instance, in 2019 the district budget is close to the equivalent of $24 million. The district budget will receive the equivalent of about $34 million from the central state budget.

Plans have been made to open a fitness and sport complex with a swimming pool in Ostrovets in 2019 as well as a new school for 765 students and a children daycare center for 230 kids. It will be the fourth kindergarten and the second school built since the nuclear project was launched. The construction of the hospital, which is supposed to become a regional healthcare and recreation center not only for Ostrovets District but also for some other districts of Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast, and Vitebsk Oblast, continues.
