"On Point"
MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) - Modern geopolitics is a vast tapestry, and if someone tugs at a thread somewhere, the entire pattern on the global carpet changes, sometimes with rather serious consequences, Elena Ponomareva, Doctor of Political Science, Professor at MGIMO (Moscow State Institute of International Relations), said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
The expert, speaking about the global situation and crises that have already erupted this year, noted that all political processes are interconnected. “The world system is a very fragile structure. This fragility is largely determined by the processes of globalization, which the once quite famous, even infamously so, Henry Kissinger characterized in his time as Americanization. He said globalization was simply another name for Americanization. Indeed, the initiators of global processes were American multinational corporations. They achieved an enormous interconnectedness of economies, technologies, finance, and logistics. Even climate changes, not to mention various medical experiments, are also a consequence of this global system,” Elena Ponomareva stressed.
She stressed that any unrest, any color revolutions directly or indirectly affect other states, including Belarus and Russia. The professor cited a quote from a French writer who publishes under the pen name Maxime Chattam. “Modern geopolitics is a vast tapestry, and if someone tugs at a thread somewhere, the entire pattern on the global carpet changes. Sometimes these changes are more serious than they might appear at first glance. And what do these serious changes indicate? They show that it’s impossible to hide from them, even if you seem to be in another part of the world,” said Elena Ponomareva. “It’s very important that the ongoing changes, after all, concern those countries with which we share allied relations.”
