Opinion: Support for the youth is important for Belarus' future

MOGILEV, 27 January (BelTA) – Support for and promotion of the youth policy is essential for the country's future, delegate of the Belarusian People's Congress, Director of the Krichev History Museum Vladimir Mishchenko said.

“It is a great honor and responsibility for me to represent our region and the youth of Krichev District at such an important event. This is an opportunity to put forward not only my ideas and proposals, but also the ideas of all those people who have entrusted me with this important mission. After all, the things we will discuss at the Belarusian People's Congress will shape the future only of the state, but also of each person, each family in our country.

One of the priority areas in our country's development is the empowerment and support for the youth because they will inherit all our achievements,” Vladimir Mishchenko said.

Speaking about the youth policy, Vladimir Mishchenko noted that it is important to raise the age of young people to 35 years. “Our life expectancy is increasing. Therefore, in my opinion, we should raise the age of young people to 35 years. This will give more time and opportunities to the youth to achieve their aspirations and find a rewarding and fulfilling job. In addition, in this case young people will have more time to take advantage of various benefits and social guarantees that are available to the youth. This will become a solid foundation for successful and productive work in the future,” he said.

Another matter that needs to be considered is development of a government program to provide grants to youth organizations. “Our young people are active and engaged change-makers. They have interesting and useful ideas - I see this as I lead the youth parliament at the district council of deputies. Grant support from the state will give an impetus to the country's further development. Competition for funding will give rise to a healthy competition between applicants and encourage them to come up with more interesting, thought-out and effective ideas and proposals,” the museum director believes.

In addition to that, he suggested paying more attention to young people who plan to live and work in the south-eastern part of Mogilev Oblast. “It is important to consider additional support mechanisms for these young people. The availability of housing is a great way to keep the youth from leaving this area. After all, if young people have their own home there, they are less likely to look for work in another city or region. Housing will help them get a foothold there. Therefore, it makes sense to consider providing young professionals with rental housing with the right to purchase it in five years. Another important point is the creation of jobs, especially high-tech jobs. All this will allow keeping much-needed specialists in the district,” the delegate said.

Vladimir Mishchenko himself hails from Krichev District. After graduating from the history faculty of Mogilev State University named after A.A. Kuleshov, he returned to his school in the agricultural town of Botvinovka. “Of course, it was easier for me than for others in my first years of work. I knew the teachers, local residents. This allowed me to quickly adapt and embark on the work,” he noted. “In 2016, I took charge of the Krichev History Museum. This is also an interesting job, it prompts you to think out-of-the-box. We inherited a wonderful palace and park complex, which we try to improve and make interesting both for local residents, visitors from other parts of Belarus and foreigners. Dedication is important in any profession. And if you love what you do, if you treat your work responsibly and seriously - success is guaranteed. Our museum has big plans for the current year. We are set to implement a joint project with representatives of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Moldova. We will create a large virtual exposition ‘By the Roads of Potemkin: Visiting the places connected with the prince-creator”. We have already implemented several large eco-projects. One of them became possible thanks to the Small Grants Program of the Global Environment Facility. As a result, the park near the museum has been revamped, exotic plants and art objects have appeared. In addition, we have renovated the boiler room, replaced the lighting in the museum - it has become energy efficient. This is a great job that allows our museum to remain an interesting and popular tourist destination on the map of Belarus,” the delegate said.

The delegate noted that in such a busy life, the support of family and loved ones is important. “My wife is also from Krichev District, a teacher by education. We became first-time parents not long ago. Of course, this is the most important event in our life for now, it gives us not only strength, but also inspiration. Everything that I do for the museum and our community I also do for my loved ones,” he said.
