MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – Russia is not interested in recreating an empire or annexing new territories, editor-in-chief of PolitRussia, political scientist Ruslan Ostashko said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
According to the political scientist, negotiating with European elites about resuming cooperation with Russia is currently pointless. He argues that previous years demonstrated how Europe benefited from trade with Russia, with EU countries earning billions. However, as soon as Russia prioritized its own national sovereignty and independence, the West decided it needed to be reined in.

“They’ve decided there’s no point in negotiating with these Russians; they simply need to be destroyed and their territory used to build a large number of different states that will trade with them and be completely subservient,” stated Ruslan Ostashko. “Therefore, in my subjective opinion, there’s no point in talking to them. We won’t convince them today. The only thing that can stop and rein  them in is our tough policy.”

He concluded, “We don’t need to talk to the elites. We need to talk to European citizens, to ordinary people, and show them that we have no desire to recreate the Russian Empire or annex new territories.”
