MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – Corruption scandals in Ukraine are turning into a spectacle, economist and analyst from Moldova Serghei Banari said in the latest episode of BelTA’s project V Teme [On Point].
At the end of April, the European Union approved a loan of €90 billion for Ukraine. However, according to Serghei Banari, not all of the funds will reach Kiev: some will be embezzled within the European Union, and some will be stolen in Ukraine itself.
“The manner in which they steal in Kiev has become legendary. While Ukrainians rounded up by recruitment centers are dying in droves along the line of contact, a dollar-fuelled witch’s sabbath is unfolding in Kiev, where everything that can possibly be taken is being plundered, everything that lies poorly guarded and even everything that lies well guarded. We are witnessing this show,” the economist remarked.
He recalled recent corruption scandals in Ukraine involving the authorities and their close associates from big business. The subsequent chain of events, the analyst said, amounted to “a cheap show.”
“Moreover, everyone instantly forgot about the billions that have disappeared without a trace. There is a wise saying: he who can manipulate the opinions of the discontented shapes the future. The skill with which the opinions of Ukraine’s dissatisfied citizens are manipulated is truly astonishing. You would think people might reflect on the fact that their loved ones are dying every single day, every single hour, yet their main topic of conversation becomes the utterly staged exchanges between Zelensky and Mindich, or the fundraising for the unfortunate Yermak to pay for his bail,” said Serghei Banari. “This is already absurd. Millions of people have vanished as if by a wave of the hand, yet you choose to put on this cheap show.”
