Opinion: Belarus' National Art Museum perfect for Dali exhibition

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) - The National Art Museum of Belarus is a perfect site for a Salvador Dali exhibition, collector Beniamino Levi told the media at the press conference dedicated to the opening of the international exhibition “Salvador Dali”, BelTA has learned.

“The museum has all the necessary conditions to host such expensive projects, that is why we are grateful for the opportunity to display the collection in such a prestigious place. We hope that the exposition will attract a lot of spectators. I also liked the city. Minsk is a very beautiful and clean city with interesting architecture,” the collector noted.

The exhibition features over 100 works of sculpture, graphics, and jewelry created by one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. In addition, two monumental sculptures of Salvador Dali were installed outside the exposition area.

“All the items are part of the Dali Universe collection which is said to be one of the largest private collections of Salvador Dali's sculptural and decorative art. The founder of the collection and the president of the Salvador Dali company is Beniamino Levi, an Italian art dealer and collector who worked with the renowned Spanish artist in the 1960s. It was then that he started his collection with a special focus on three-dimensional items. He is a recognized expert in Salvador Dali's bronze works,” said Olga Kletskina, head of international exhibitions at the exhibition department of the National Art museum, the project curator.

According to her, the museum is working on a virtual tour of the exhibition which will provide information on the exhibits, help visitors understand them better and highlight the most important details.

“The museum got the opportunity to host the exhibition of Salvador Dali thanks to cooperation with the Galperin and Sons investment company. This is a good example of public-private partnership,” head of the National Art Museum Vladimir Prokoptsov noted. “The exhibition has been attracting more and more attention with every passing day. It will open for visitors on 16 March, but visitors have already started to book excursions. We hope that Minsk residents and tourists whom we expect during the European Games will enjoy the project,” he added.

The works from this collection have been displayed in over 100 prestigious museums and have attracted the audience of over 12 million people all over the world. This unusual collection focuses on Dali's sculptural work which is not known to the world at large.

The exhibition “Salvador Dali” is one of the events timed to the 80th anniversary of the Belarusian National Art Museum and will stay open till 30 June.
