Opinion: Belarus has always acted as a defender, not an aggressor

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – Belarus has always acted solely as a defender, not an aggressor, member of the Standing Commission on Labor and Social Affairs of the House of Representatives of Belarus Inna Krachek told BelTA.

“In his annual Address to Belarusian People and the National Assembly, the president gave answers to important questions: what Belarus' priorities are, how to retain the country's independence, who our friends and allies are, why it is necessary to support the Constitution draft. We have approached a very important period in our contemporary history - the renewal of the political system, a new level of interaction between the state and the society. At present, the pandemic, the growth of the world's population intensified the struggle for resources and markets. Belarus has always, throughout its entire history, acted only as a defender, not an aggressor. Yet, even defense requires a lot of resources today,” the MP said.

She emphasized that in such a situation one cannot survive on one's own. “Therefore, this situation has further strengthened the alliance between Belarus and Russia. It is necessary to pay great attention to the economy and its performance. This is a source of funds to fulfill social commitments of the state, support agricultural and industrial enterprises, and maintain defense capability. We can hold out only by joining forces, preserving our land and our country,” she said.

Igor Tavtyn, member of the Standing Commission on Health, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives, added that the address was not only a profound and comprehensive analysis of what is happening in the country and the world, but also a development program for our country. “The address of the head of state was divided into several blocks. Some of them highlighted peace as an absolute value for any person, historical memory, domestic and foreign policy,” he said.

The MP stated: “Only by consolidating the society, we were able to survive these difficult two years with dignity, and only thanks to unity we will be able to preserve and improve our country.”
