MP: Logic of Belarus' defense policy is aimed at protecting national territory

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) - We have never encroached on the territory of other states, but we will not give up our own either, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Andrei Savinykh told BelTA.

Andrei Savinykh noted that being commander-in-chief the Belarusian president must respond to threats. This is why today the head of state held a meeting on security matters to discuss the plans to defend the country. Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed the Defense Ministry and the State Security Committee to work out a possible set of measures to keep the situation under control and respond to it. At the same time, the president stressed that Belarus, if necessary, will be able to give an adequate response to any opponent. According to the MP, Belarus has taken all the measures to prevent the aggravation of the situation. Now steps are being taken to prevent hostilities.

"The logic of the defense policy of the Republic of Belarus is aimed primarily at protecting the national territory. We have never encroached on the territory of other states, but we will never give up our land. Therefore, the task has been set for everyone (law enforcement, the army, and government bodies), namely to ensure reliable protection of our land and the well-being of our people," Andrei Savinykh said.

"We will never cross the border of the Republic of Belarus with weapons in our hands. But any aggressor that comes to us with war will be dealt a tough and crushing blow,” the MP said.
