MP: Belarus takes comprehensive measures to contain COVID-19

GOMEL, 14 April (BelTA) - Belarus has been taking comprehensive measures to contain COVID-19. But a lot depends on the personal responsibility of each person, MP Nikolai Vasilkov said in an interview with BelTA.

“Our country has been taking a set of comprehensive measures to contain the spread of coronavirus. The system is well-established and allows isolating a sick person and identifying his/her contacts as quickly as possible. Medical professionals work well at all levels. Large-scale awareness raising campaign is underway. Additional resources have been employed to help the elderly and the lonely,” Nikolai Vasilkov said. All this, according to the MP, contributes to the fact that the number of new coronavirus cases in Belarus has remained virtually the same in the past several day. There is no avalanche-like growth.

The MP believes that in the current situation everyone should realize the degree of their personal responsibility. A lot depends on the self-discipline of every citizen of the country, their attitude to their personal health and the health of others, he said.

The MP also urged people with chronic diseases, weakened immunity, various pathologies, and the elderly to refrain from visiting crowded places, including churches during Easter. “Church services will be televised, and the faithful will be able to spend these spiritual days praying at home. Thus they will be able to protect themselves, prevent critical consequences. As a doctor, I preach this basic principle: a disease is easier to prevent than to treat it,” Nikolai Vasilkov added.
