MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) - The peer learning workshop “Policies for implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: exchange of best practices on the basis of UNECE Environmental Performance Reviews” will take place in Minsk on 21-22 November, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The peer learning workshop aims to highlight opportunities and inspire effective practices and solutions in advancing the legal, policy and institutional frameworks for implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through the exchange of experience between countries participating in the UNECE EPR Programme (Belarus, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Georgia, Romania, Serbia, others).
The seminar is held by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in cooperation with a group of experts on Environmental Performance Reviews (EPRs). Three such reviews were conducted in Belarus (in 1997, 2005 and 2015). The EPR assesses the progress made by the country in improving its environmental policy. The review is carried out by independent experts of the UNECE in close cooperation with national experts of the country and provides recommendations for improving the state of the environment as a whole, improving environmental legislation and the effectiveness of environmental policy measures.
