Minsk students to help renovate Tsarskoye Selo near St. Petersburg

MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – A student construction brigade from Minsk will help renovate a palace in the town of Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo) not far from Saint Petersburg, commissar of the brigade Dmitry Kunichnikov said at a press conference dedicated to the Youth Day on 20 June, BelTA has learned.

The student construction brigade is made up of 15 students from the country's best universities. Many young people submitted applications, however, only a quarter of the applicants made it to the brigade, Dmitry Kunichnikov said.

It is not the first time Belarusian students will work in Saint Petersburg. Last year a mixed student construction brigade helped build a children's dance theater at the Boris Eifman Dance Academy. “Our students always receive a warm welcome in Saint Petersburg,” the leader of the brigade said.

In line with an established tradition, Minsk will welcome young people from Saint Petersburg. They will make part of a mixed Belarus-Russia brigade and will be engaged in the construction of a dormitory in the Student Village.

Over 200 contracts were signed to employ about 3,000 students in July. Apart from construction brigades, there are also service, pedagogical, environmental and manufacturing brigades. Talks are in place to expand cooperation in this field with Moldova, Kazakhstan and Russia.
