Ministry details support measures for Leningrad siege survivors in Belarus

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) - The German-fascist siege of Leningrad hero city was lifted 82 years ago, on 27 January 1944. The Labor and Social Security Ministry detailed the support currently provided to siege survivors in Belarus.

As of 1 January 2026, 167 survivors of the siege of Leningrad were living in the Republic of Belarus. Providing social support to veterans of the Great Patriotic War, including Leningrad siege survivors, is one of the most important tasks of state social policy.

In accordance with Law No. 37-Z of the Republic of Belarus of 11 November 2024 “On amending laws concerning veterans”, which entered into force on 1 May 2025, healthcare guarantees for survivors of the Leningrad siege have been strengthened, taking their age into account.

State social benefits for Leningrad siege survivors include: free provision of medicines; free dental service in state healthcare organizations; out-of-turn service at healthcare organizations; out-of-turn hospitalization for planned medical care; free provision of technical aids for social rehabilitation; out-of-turn free treatment and rehabilitation at health resorts; free travel on all types of city and suburban passenger transport; a 50% discount on housing, utility services, and landline telephone; and other benefits.

Furthermore, survivors of the Leningrad Siege receive special monthly supplements to their pension: an increment, an age-related allowance, and a care supplement. As of 1 February 2026, the total monthly pension increment will amount to Br310.

Annually, in the rum-up to Victory Day, survivors of the Leningrad siege receive financial assistance. In 2025, the amount was Br2,500.

Social services regularly visit Leningrad siege survivors and assist them in resolving various social and domestic issues.

During the siege, approximately 1 million Leningrad residents died while the survivors demonstrated unparalleled heroism and courage.
