MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) - Belarusians will soon get a chance to stay in Oman for up to 14 days visa-free. The two countries are working on the relevant agreement, Belarusian First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lukashevich said in an interview with STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“Today's active negotiations have resulted in Oman’s voluntary commitment to include Belarus to a certain list (they call it ‘list number 1’) that will let Belarusian citizens stay in Oman for up to 14 days without a visa. Why is this important for us? We plan to develop tourism with this country. In addition, this will facilitate visits of Belarusian businessmen to Oman and Omani businessmen to Belarus,” Sergei Lukashevich said.

The two countries also seek industrial partnerships. The relevant agencies of the two countries are expected to sign a memorandum of cooperation. “Oman got interested in our proposals. We are studying the details in order to discuss specific options for cooperation between our ministries in Minsk,” Belarusian Deputy Industry Minister Andrei Kuznetsov said. Machine building comes first on the agenda.

A package of documents on cooperation between the two countries was signed on 14 October. Among them is a memorandum of understanding between the Belarusian Finance Ministry and the Capital Market Authority of Oman. A similar document was signed in antimonopoly regulation between the Belarusian Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment Promotion of Oman. Another memorandum of understanding was signed in consumer protection between the Belarusian Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade and the Consumer Protection Authority of Oman.

Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko paid an official visit to Oman on 13-14 October to hold a number of important meetings with the country's authorities.
