MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – MPs of Belarus and Indonesia discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in Minsk on 10 May, BelTA has learned.
On 10 May, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs of the House of Representatives, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Parliament of Indonesia Irina Kostevich, Member of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Aleksandr Lukyanov met with the Indonesian parliamentary delegation. The Indonesian delegation comprised Chairman of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia Mardani Ali Sera and Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of Indonesia with the Parliament of Belarus Isfhan Taufik Munggaran.
“Your presence in our country on these festive days is the best confirmation of the friendship that exists between our countries. Indonesia always assists Belarus in addressing certain issues. Today we are discussing, first of all, how we can use the parliamentary potential to promote our national interests in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia in general,” said Sergei Rachkov.
According to him, contacts between the parliaments of the two countries are developing effectively. “We hold various joint events. Most importantly, we interact very actively in inter-parliamentary structures,” the MP noted. “I would like to particularly emphasize our cooperation in the IPU. You know that Belarus, namely the National Assembly of our country, is an observer in the ASEAN IPA. We annually take part in the general assemblies of the ASEAN IPA, speak at the plenary sessions, interact, exchange views, engage in dialogue as an observer country with the member countries of this organization.”
Within the framework of the working group, this is the first official meeting to discuss important issues of cooperation, said Irina Kostevich. “We have made quite good progress in the exchange of goods, cooperation in industry, education, services, healthcare, and science. Today we would like to detail the issues of mutual interest,” the MP emphasized.
“Our country has a very close interaction between the two chambers of parliament, which helps to achieve the most significant results, and, first of all, in foreign policy,” Aleksandr Lukyanov said. “We consider your state as a priority country for the development of our bilateral ties. Being the head of the largest youth organization in our country, we are seriously interested in establishing cooperation between our youth organizations. We have joined the BRICS Youth Council. Last year we joined the SCO Youth Council. Such reliable friends as the youth of Indonesia will certainly help us build a constructive agenda for the benefit of the development of our states.”
According to Mardani Ali Sera, Chairman of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia is interested in expanding interaction between the peoples of the two countries, as well as economic cooperation with Belarus. “I would like to establish trade between the two countries. The good news is that Indonesia has also joined BRICS as well as Belarus. I hope this will help strengthen our trade cooperation,” Mardani Ali Sera emphasized.
