Libya eager to help build, rebuild mosques in Belarus

MINSK, 3 July (BelTA) – Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Stability Dr. Osama Hamad went on a tour of the Islam History Museum in the Cathedral Mosque in Minsk. During the tour he expressed readiness to assist with building new mosques and rebuilding existing mosques in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Osama Hamad said: “In turn, as the Libyan nation we are ready to cooperate with you, provide assistance with mosque construction and with the training of students.”
The head of the Libyan delegation clarified that assistance will be offered for repairing or reconstructing the Cathedral Mosque if necessary. “We are also ready to assist with building new mosques. Either by financing it or by actually building them,” he said.

It was also noted that Libya is ready to donate several thousands of copies of the Quran to the Cathedral Mosque in Minsk. Libya is also ready to cooperate in the training of university students.

Osama Hamad admitted he was glad to hear that ethnicities live in peace and accord in Belarus.
After the Libyan delegation visited the mosque, Mufti of the Muslim Religious Association in Belarus Abu-Bekir Shabanovich told reporters his soul was full of genuine human joy: in addition to Independence Day celebrations in Belarus this day was marked with a visit of the delegation from Libya.

“The arrival of such a large delegation in this composition gives hope for closer relations in economy, politics, and across the board. In addition to these areas I am particularly glad that cooperation is getting established in the sphere of education, personnel training in higher education institutions of the republic,” the mufti said.

At the same time the training of Libyan students in Belarus places an additional burden of providing religious services. “While they study here, they need religious support. They should be involved in our events, celebrations, our prayers. Not only on Fridays, on festive days but in everyday life. It is quite a lot of work. But it gives joy to me and my team of the Minsk Cathedral Mosque,” Abu-Bekir Shabanovich said.
In his words, the meeting with the Libyan delegation was sincere and convincing. “They understood that we are all sincere. And if we sign contracts and agreements, then we fulfil all the contract obligations. And the fact that the Libyan prime minister promised he would cooperate in this field with the religious organization of Muslims of Belarus gives me even more joy. It will be mutually beneficial,” the mufti concluded.
