Lavrov: Union State integration has gained good pace in recent years

MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) - Integration in the Union State has gained a good pace in recent years, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a meeting with Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko in Minsk on 25 June, BelTA has learned.

"I would like to take this opportunity and congratulate you on your election to this post. There is no doubt that your work will be devoted not only to promoting the interests of the Republic of Belarus, but also the interests of the Union State. The integration processes have gained a very good pace over the past few years, 28 joint programs are currently in place. Moreover, all of them have already been legislated. Now new tasks have been set. It is very important for us to provide foreign policy support for all this work," Sergey Lavrov said.
Sergey Lavrov recalled that on 24 June, together with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik, they signed a joint statement on the main tasks of the foreign policy dimension of the Union State integration.

"Yesterday we voiced a joint initiative: we signed an address to the heads of several organizations on the Eurasian continent with a proposal to join the effort to draw up a concept of continental security, which will be open to all countries of Eurasia. These countries themselves must agree on how to ensure reliable, indivisible security without the participation of regional forces. Because all Euro-Atlantic security models have failed to ensure equality, and, in fact, all of them serve the interests of the United States and its allies," Sergey Lavrov added.
