Kochanova hosts meeting to discuss state property management

MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) – Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova has hosted a meeting of the expert council under the Council of the Republic, BelTA has learned.

The participants of the meeting discussed state property management. This topic has been raised many times at previous meetings. It is proposed to grant local councils more powers to make decisions regarding unused property. According to the business community, this will significantly speed up and facilitate the reuse of abandoned, dilapidated buildings and land plots.

“State property management and lease have always been in the focus of the government, but now the focus is increasingly shifting to unused property. The general idea is to reuse abandoned and dismissed property thus turning liabilities into assets through their lease or sale. There are plans to make it easier to sell or demolish abandoned, unused, dilapidated buildings,” said Valentin Baiko, a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly.

The expert council also discussed what government agency or department should oversee the process. Natalya Kochanova did not uphold the proposal to give this task to the State Control Committee. “Executives should have the courage to take decisions and bear responsibility for them, as this work is part of their job description. In his case we will not have to give such tasks to various authorities, like the State Control Committee, the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General's Office, etc.,” Natalya Kochanova said.
