MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – Security guarantees to be provided by the United States to Ukraine will be coordinated with Russia, military expert and political analyst Yakov Kedmi said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Europe has long been sidelined. The key point is this: any security guarantees the United States will provide to Ukraine will be coordinated with Russia. These guarantees will take effect after a peace agreement is signed – not before, not during the hostilities. The recent meeting made one thing absolutely clear: the U.S. doesn’t want war with Russia and isn’t prepared to fight Russia. Therefore, all decisions will be made strictly within the framework of this agreement,” the expert emphasized.
This isn’t just about security assurances for Kiev, but equally about Moscow’s requirements for Washington, stated Yakov Kedmi. “If discussions addressed guarantees the U.S. would give to Ukraine, they simultaneously covered guarantees Russia would demand from the United States. Moscow is far more invested in the latter – those outlined by Putin in December 2021 [during an expanded meeting of Russia’s Defense Ministry Board]. This issue hasn’t vanished; it cannot be removed from the agenda, no matter how hard Europe tries to ignore it.”
