GOMEL, 18 September (BelTA) – The Hasidic Jews, who were stranded in the no man's land between the borders of Belarus and Ukraine while on a pilgrimage, are grateful to the Belarusian side. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Belarus Alon Shoham made the statement on the air of the Belarusian TV channel STV, BelTA has learned.
The ambassador visited the no man's land and examined the conditions the pilgrims have to deal with. He talked to the people. Over 1,000 people, including children, were still in the tent camp on 17 September.
“The assistance was huge and the people are deeply grateful. They said so to the oblast governor and all the government agencies. The Belarusian Red Cross also helps a lot. It gives virtually everything it has,” the ambassador said.
