Historian dwells on Trump's position regarding Ukraine, blackmail, threats to EU

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - US President Donald Trump has made a personal decision to finally exit the Ukrainian conflict, historian Yevgeny Spitsyn said during his latest appearance on the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Discussing the USA’s role in the situation with the Ukrainian conflict, Yevgeny Spitsyn pointed to Trump's recent high-profile statements, both during and after the UN General Assembly sessions. “Then came the hasty comments claiming that a concert of European powers had somehow managed to rewire Trump's brain, that he is starting to play by Biden's rules, that the war is transforming from Biden's war into Trump's war, and that they are discussing the supply of long-range missiles with Zelensky. I think it's all a game,” the expert believes.

“Trump himself has made the decision to finally withdraw from the Ukrainian conflict. It brings him no dividends. Although information has come in that just the other day, the implementation of the agreement that Zelensky signed with Trump regarding rare-earth metals has begun, meaning those very resources the Americans have been dreaming of acquiring for quite some time. For example, deposits of lithium. Besides Donbass, major lithium deposits are located in Kirovohrad Oblast. And apparently, representatives of American companies have already arrived and are starting work in this direction,” said the historian.

According to Yevgeny Spitsyn, by and large, Donald Trump's main task now is to destroy Europe as a main competitor. “And if Europe burns itself in the fire of the Ukrainian war, that would be even better for the USA. That is why they are escalating the situation with military hysteria. And in this case, the Europeans are also going all-in; they are whipping up hysteria, resorting to blackmail and direct threats, counting on the fact that Putin's nerves will eventually snap,” the expert said. “That he will back down himself.”

“They are proposing to conclude a peace along the current line of contact. But they understand perfectly well that this will not be a 38th parallel, as in the Korean scenario,” the historian noted. “A ceasefire is vitally necessary for them to regroup, build up their forces, including armaments. Who is asking for a ceasefire? Those who can no longer bear the fight, whose resources are stretched to the limit, who understand perfectly well that if they don't get this ceasefire, then in a certain number of days, weeks, or months, they will lose everything. That is why they desperately, vitally need this ceasefire. To secure Russia's agreement to this ceasefire, they are resorting to the most terrible threats, including the kind of insane rhetoric that [Poland] Foreign Minister [Radosław] Sikorski delivered at the UN session. What a menacing speech he gave: saying that if one more aircraft, they will shoot it down. And so on and so forth. Go ahead, shoot it down, and you'll see what you get in return. I assure you, America will not lift a finger to defend Poland.”
