"On Point"
MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – Capitalism is the reason for all global crises, both economic, political, and ideological ones, historian Yevgeny Spitsyn said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“The cause of all global crises, both economic, political, and ideological ones, lies precisely in capitalism, but in this case, imperialism, its highest stage. During imperialism, all those contradictions immanent to capitalism become intensified and cannot be resolved within the framework of this system. They are antagonistic in nature. Above all, this is the antagonistic contradiction between labor and capital," the historian noted. “Returning to the history of the confrontation between the Soviet Union and the United States and the two systems, no matter how one looks at it, this was, at the time, the optimal form of existence for the global system. It was a genuine system of checks and balances. There could be any number of regional conflicts on the periphery of these systems, but those conflicts were always kept under control and never exceeded the boundaries of the system.”
Yevgeny Spitsyn shared that he is working on a book about the last General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, Mikhail Gorbachev, and emphasized that nothing that the Soviet leader promised ultimately came to pass.
Yevgeny Spitsyn shared that he is working on a book about the last General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, Mikhail Gorbachev, and emphasized that nothing that the Soviet leader promised ultimately came to pass.
The historian cited excerpts from Gorbachev’s report at the 19th Communist Party congress on 28 June 1988: “Look at what he said then: 'Our policy of new thinking in the world arena will inevitably give rise to the following trends by the turn of the 20th – 21st centuries. First: the gradual demilitarization and humanization of international relations, where reason and moral norms, rather than selfish ambitions and prejudices, will guide states in resolving global contradictions and achieving a balance of interests. And second thing: ensuring the security of all states will increasingly shift from the sphere of military balance to the sphere of political interaction and strict adherence to international obligations, resulting in the formation of a comprehensive system of international security, primarily through enhancing the role and effectiveness of the United Nations.
How does that sound? The general secretary was a ‘prophet’, wasn’t he? Everything he said turned out to be completely empty, because Mikhail Gorbachev disregarded the very class nature of international relations and the class analysis of the international situation. By submitting to the so-called 'new political thinking' he invented, he essentially surrendered all the achievements of the Soviet Union to please American imperialism, which for decades had behaved like a bull in a china shop. Nothing that Gorbachev proclaimed almost 40 years ago, or to be precise 38 years ago, has come true and could not come true. Because class analysis is the scientific foundation of our understanding of the processes unfolding in the world,” the historian said.
