GOMEL, 10 January (BelTA) – Gomel Oblast is holding a regional community work day for snow removal in the wake of the heavy snowfall, BelTA has learned.
Across the region, people are clearing the grounds of industrial sites and enterprises, courtyards, sidewalks, pathways and social facilities.

The focal point for a crew led by Governor of Gomel Oblast Ivan Krupko is the grounds of the Gomel children's social residential school Happy Smiles.

Across the region, people are clearing the grounds of industrial sites and enterprises, courtyards, sidewalks, pathways and social facilities.

“Our institution is designed for the round-the-clock stay of 85 people. Currently, e have 48 children under 18 and 36 individuals over 18. We are a unique institution as accommodation is organized on a family-type principle, with the residents living in small residential buildings in small groups. All the children have developmental needs,” said Valentina Khancevskaya, Deputy Director for Education.
She expressed immense gratitude to everyone assisting the institution in clearing the grounds. “Help is always needed. We are very happy to receive such support,” the deputy director said.
During the community work day, regional and city executives, MPs, the institution's administration, and some of the young residents cleared the pathways on the grounds, the approaches to the buildings, and to the playgrounds. "The winter is snowy and beautiful this year. We worked hard today. It's also exercise in the fresh air. The mood is great,’ noted Vova Byshek, a resident of the boarding school.

Governor Ivan Krupko recalled that a proposal to hold the community work day came from residents of the region. “We had a lot of snow A. In some places, the snow cover reaches 40 cm and more. The task is to ensure that routine aspects of daily life continue to function as usual. This means we must guarantee normal access to social institutions, nearby parking areas, bus stops, and sidewalks. In short, so that everything operates in normal mode,” he emphasized.
Proper attention is also being given to institutions housing individuals who are ill, elderly, or in need of special care and support.
“Naturally, the president's directive regarding enterprises being assigned specific service areas applies not only to the summer and spring periods. In winter, amid snowfall, everything must work smoothly, which involves clearing sidewalks in some places, assisting utility workers on roadways in others,” the regional leader noted.
"It is important for residents to also come out and tidy up the neighborhood areas near their homes and parking spots. Then the utility workers will come and take out the accumulated snow,” he added.
“This is why it's important for the big family to do a big job and help in this situation. Because allowing snow to accumulate will only narrow the streets and roads. And this cannot be allowed,’ Ivan Kruko said.
He sincerely thanked all residents of the region who did not stand aside. "Together, we will accomplish a great task and ensure normal living conditions for the region," Ivan Krupko noted.
