BREST, 18 January (BelTA) – Recipes for a giant pie and a massive portion of shurpa have been entered into the record book of the Beresteiskie Sani 2026 regional winter festival, BelTA has learned.
The Mukhavets River embankment served as the main venue for the festivities. More than 100 catering establishments treated guests to their offerings. Brest continued a tradition begun in Pinsk two years ago –preparing a huge portion of a local dish. Initially, the founders of Beresteiskie Sani recorded a recipe for Polesian porridge in the festival book, followed by residents of Kobrin, who added two more: shchi and Suvorov porridge.
For this year’s festival, the Brest Baker company produced the largest holiday pie ever baked for the event. The two-tiered creation weighed 115 kilograms and measured three meters in diameter. Its preparation required 100 kilograms of wheat flour, 57 liters of water, 13 kilograms of sugar, 9 kilograms of margarine, 6.5 kilograms of yeast, and 1.2 kilograms of salt. Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik applied the finishing touch by dusting the pie with powdered sugar, thereby setting an official baker’s record.

At another venue, specialists from Brest Meat Processing Plant prepared the largest batch of shurpa ever cooked in Belarus. Using an 850-liter cauldron brought from Uzbekistan, they simmered the rich soup for several hours in the morning. The recipe called for 200 kilograms of meat, 100 kilograms of potatoes, 30 kilograms of carrots, 15 kilograms of onions, 15 kilograms of tomatoes, 10 kilograms of bell peppers, 1 kilogram of chili peppers, 5 kilograms of dill, and 3 kilograms of cilantro. After tasting the shurpa, Piotr Parkhomchik recorded the achievement in the festival’s special book. All visitors were invited to sample the dish.
