Generator stator now in design position in second unit of Belarusian nuclear power plant

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – Specialists of the Belarusian branch of the Russian construction and installation company VdMU have put the stator of the generator of the second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant into its design position, the ASE Company press service told BelTA. The company is the general designer and general contractor for the project to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The company represents the engineering division of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom.

The stator is a core component of the electric equipment of the turbine unit. The stator is designed to convert mechanical energy of a rotating turbine into electricity. Apart from that, with the weight in excess of 440 tonnes, the stator is the heaviest piece of equipment used by the nuclear power plant's unit.

“With the generator stator in its design position, full-scale work to install core equipment in the machine room of the power-generating unit can begin. Putting other pieces of equipment into their design positions will be the next step,” noted Vitaly Polyanin, ASE Company Vice President and supervisor of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project.

The turbine generator T3V-1200-2 has been designed and manufactured by PAO Power Machines. This type of turbine generators boasts fire safety, increased reliability, high overload capacity due to low levels of heating and vibration, lack of oil seals on the shaft, fans and built-in gas coolers.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using a Russian design featuring VVER-1200 reactors near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
