MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – The solemn opening ceremony of the 9th Forum of Engineering and Technology Universities of the Belarus-Russia Union State has taken place at Belarusian National Technical University, BelTA has learned.
This year the event brought together over 200 participants from more than 100 universities of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, China, the Republic of Korea, Latvia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
“Since its inception nine years ago, the forum has proved to be an excellent opportunity to share best practices between universities of various countries and to promote engineering education. Over this time, academic exchanges and interaction between universities have intensified, which helps address many tasks related to personnel training,” First Deputy Education Minister Irina Starovoitova said.
According to her, the forum allows young people to present new ideas and helps to implement them.
The 9th Forum of Engineering and Technology Universities of the Belarus-Russia Union State consists of four sections encompassing more than 12 seminars across various areas of science and technology. Its main theme this year is the Arctic. This is a completely new area of research. In view of the active study and reclamation of this polar region, it is badly needed to train appropriate personnel and develop innovative solutions that can be used in the Arctic.
The next section is “Development of Engineering Education in the Union State”. It focuses on the main approaches, trends and programs in modern engineering education, new engineering majors and areas of study. The section “Youth innovative entrepreneurship” has already become traditional and most popular. The most talented students will attend master classes by leading experts in innovative business and after that present their start-up projects at a business battle. Students will have a unique opportunity to showcase their projects and ideas and to compete for the title of the best youth startup of the Union State.
On 10 December Belarusian National Technical University will celebrate its centenary. Thus, one of the sections of the forum is named in honor of this anniversary - “Centenary of Belarusian National Technical University”, because this university was at the ground zero of the industry and engineering education in Belarus. This year's forum will take place partially online on the Microsoft Teams platform, where each section will have a separate discussion area that anyone can join.
The organizers of the 9th Forum of Engineering and Technology Universities of the Belarus-Russia Union State are Belarusian National Technical University and Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev with the support of the Standing Committee of the Union State, the Education Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
