MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian society Znanie, Director General of the National Library of Belarus Vadim Gigin spoke about unique projects of the national social and cultural campaign Marathon of Unity in the latest episode of BelTA’s project "The Nation Speaks".
When asked about the differences for him as a lecturer between speaking at Marathon events and traditional dialogue platforms, he emphasized the informal atmosphere. "There is a huge difference. The Belarusian society Znanie noticed that some formats at the dialogue platforms are often formalized and duplicate each other. A speaker gives a formal lecture and answers questions. I do not want to offend anyone, but this is true. Our society Znanie understood that we need to change the style," he said.
The Marathon of Unity offers an informal approach, Vadim Gigin said. "It bring together different creative people with administrative skills and creative energy. Music, games, psychological aspects allow breaking away from the formats we got used to,” he emphasized.
Both the formats of the events and the choice of speakers are interesting. For example, Not-Boring Not-Lecture. "Deputy Education Minister Yekaterina Petrutskaya holds such a motivating, meaningful lesson with college students. This is not just a conversation, but a game designed for this age, which helps to deliver and understand quite useful information," Vadim Gigin noted.
Vadim Gigin pointed out that the concert “Time chose us” is also unusual and every host city looks forward to it. "It is full of content. Lecturers, including natives of the host cities take the stage and share their impressions. Let's take Bobruisk, the hometown of Ruslan Alekhno. His teacher, who now holds a responsible office, comes on stage with him. How will the audience react to this? Very welcoming. People will remember this. Another example: the factory workers brought their kids for a meeting with MAZ-SPORTauto team. These are boys of different ages, who look up to their heroes. An 11-year-old girl asked: ‘I want to join the MAZ team, how can a girl do it?’. This energy remains forever. We also have new projects," Vadim Gigin stated.

"Next, the Meet-and-Greet is not the usual dialogue platform. Speaking about personal things (because everyone [guests and speakers] tells some things about themselves) we again touch upon the important things. Often there is a lot of unplanned activities. For example, in Molodechno the Meet-and-Greet took place on the birthday of cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky. We and the whole audience sang to wish him many happy returns of the day. Our host Vadim Shepet played the accordion. It was fun," he cited one of the examples.
