Folklore festival in Brest Oblast to draw participants from seven countries

BREST, 1 August (BelTA) – The 10th International Folklore Festival Motol Treats (Motalskiya Prysmaki) will be held in Ivanovo District of Brest Oblast on 10-11 August, BelTA learned from Valentina Borodinchik, Head of the Culture Department of the Ivanovo District Executive Committee.

“We are preparing a lot of events, some of which will be brand new, to mark the anniversary of the festival. We want to surprise the guests. The festival will draw creative groups and craftsmen who will present traditional cuisine from various regions of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Israel, Latvia, and for the first time Algeria. The program of the festival will include a lot of events, especially on the first day,” Valentina Borodinchik said. Shopping and exhibition area will stretch for hundreds of meters, as over 250 craftsmen have applied to take part in the festival this year.

The festival will open with a costume procession along the streets of the town involving the locals and guests of the festival. It will finish by the main stage where an opening ceremony will take place featuring Belarusian and foreign creative groups. The festival will then demonstrate its diversity through a theatrical performance.

Another site of the festival near the Motol Folk Arts Museum will host a presentation of regional rites: old wedding, Easter, Trinity, and other rites. Guests will also admire participants of the Motol Treats beauty pageant “Miss Beauty” who will present a festival costume and traditional dishes from their regions. This site will also host a music battle.

The evening ball at Bona Sforza's will include master-classes on traditional dances. Pop music amateurs will be invited to an open air concert. The fist day of the festival will round off with a firework show.

The second day of the festival will be no less fascinating. A research conference will bring together representatives of local authorities, foreign delegations, scientists and experts who will discuss tourism as a driver of economic and cultural development of the region. The key event of the day will be the Table of Friendship event. Local cooks will prepare various meat, fish, vegetable dishes, drinks and desserts to their special recipes. The treats are expected to fill over 40 tables.

The International Festival Motol Treats was first held in 2008. Since 2015, it has been held twice a year.
