MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) – The first train carrying Russian Federation military personnel and hardware has arrived in the Republic of Belarus for the sake of preparing for and consequently participating in the Belarusian-Russian strategic military exercise Zapad 2025 [West 2025], representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.
Zapad 2025 represents the main stage in the joint training of the two armies this year. The exercise will take place in September. Belarusian and Russian military personnel are now in the final stage of preparations.
“Today in a solemn setting we welcomed the first representatives of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. During the exercise we intend to practice new forms and methods of applying ground units after analyzing the latest modern military conflicts. Such exercises are regularly held every two years alternately in the territory of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation,” noted Deputy Commander of the Northwestern Operational Command Pavel Shebeko.
A Russian serviceman noted: “We have arrived in the Republic of Belarus for carrying out the joint strategic military exercise Zapad 2025. At present the military union of Russia and Belarus represents an inalienable condition for the further development of our states. It is important considering the current threats. Military personnel of our formation have repeatedly taken part in international exercises together with Belarusian military personnel. A speedy deployment of the troops represents a peculiarity of this exercise.”
