MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The first combat launches using modernized air defense missile systems Pechora have been successful, representatives of the State Authority for Military Industry of Belarus told BelTA.
During live-fire tests the upgraded Pechora air defense missile system engaged in air combat with small, low-flying targets: aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles. All the targets in the air were hit, which allowed confirming in practice the air defense missile system’s tactical and technical capabilities that had been improved thanks to extensive modernization.
The Pechora air defense missile system has been renovated by acquiring a modernization kit and getting it installed by specialists from OAO ALEVKURP on the customer’s premises and with the customer’s participation.
“The modernization kit represents a set of radio technology devices and units that are installed in the air defense missile system during its modernization. The devices included in the kit are connected to each other and to the equipment that does not get replaced during modernization. They form a unified digital information processing system,” representatives of the State Authority for Military Industry of Belarus noted. “As a result of the modernization the detection radius, the striking range, and the target engagement altitude as well as the system’s resilience to interference and other parameters have been significantly increased. The Pechora air defense missile system has acquired parameters identical to those of the Pechora-2BM air defense missile system. And, last but not least, thanks to the modernization the service life of the hardware has been significantly extended.”
