STOCKHOLM, 11 May (BelTA) – The first ten finalists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was named in Sweden on 10 May, BelTA has learned.
Ten out of 18 semifinalists progressed to the final of the competition. These are representatives of Azerbaijan, Russia, the Netherlands, Hungary, Croatia, Austria, Armenia, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, and Malta.
These singers will join their counterparts from the Big Five, the five main sponsoring countries of the Eurovision Song Contest: Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK. Sweden also goes directly to the final as the country which representative won the previous competition.
Belarusian entry, IVAN (Alexander Ivanov) will perform in the second semifinal scheduled for 12 May.
The international song contest Eurovision is underway in the Swedish capital Stockholm from 10 to 14 May. This year the main Eurovision venue is the Globe Arena seating nearly 16,000 spectators. The total area of the building is 605,000 square meters. The Ericsson Globe is the largest hemispherical building on Earth and took two and a half years to build. Shaped like a large white ball, it has a diameter of 110 meters.
