Festival in Alexandria touted as blend of Belarusian traditions and modernity

Alexandria, 9 July (BelTA) - The festival in Alexandria is a blend of Belarusian traditions and modernity, Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko said during an on-site meeting of the organizing committee for the Kupala Night Festival (Alexandria Gathers Friends) and Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk in Alexandria on 9 July, BelTA has learned.

“The festival in Alexandria is a blend of Belarusian traditions and modernity. Guests will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the goods made by Belarusian artisans, enterprises and organizations at an exhibition to be organized here,” Igor Petrishenko said. “During the festival, Belarusian designers will demonstrate their collections of apparel made from flax linen and other fabrics produced by the light industry. There will be an opportunity not only to taste traditional and modern dishes of the Belarusian cuisine but also cook them during master classes,” he informed.

During the on-site meeting, the organizing committee inspected the readiness of the infrastructure of the festival. The work has already entered the home stretch: the main stage, trade pavilions are being mounted. The art groups will start rehearsals tomorrow. During the grand opening ceremony the festival will, for the first time, present every region and the city of Minsk. This will give Belarusians and foreign guests an opportunity to get acquainted not only with Mogilev Oblast but also with other regions. We hope that it will be interesting for the audience," said Igor Petrishenko.

One of the highlights of the festival will be a gala concert on the first day of the festival featuring Belarusian pop stars and also performers from Russia and Ukraine. Those who will not be able to attend the big concert will have a chance to see the live broadcast. The festival will also run a program for young guests because many families come here with children.

The festival in Alexandria will be traditionally attended by diplomats accredited in Belarus and heads of international organizations. A special program has been prepared for them, which includes a tour of Alexandria and its surroundings. “Representatives of the diplomatic corps will be able to learn more about our culture and then tell about Belarus' capabilities and traditions in their homelandd later,” Igor Petrishenko said.

The national Kupala Night Festival (Alexandria Gathers Friends) will be held in the agrotown of Alexandria, Shklov District on 11-12 July.
