MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) – The West’s attempts to confiscate Russian assets is an act of theft by the European Union, Andrei Bogodel, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Education and Science – Head of the Education and Methodology Department of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at the Military Academy of Belarus, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“The West aims to deliver a disarming strike against Russia, deploy its troops and plunder. They are desperate. The bulk of European manufacturing is now based in the Asia-Pacific region or is slowly relocating to North America,” Andrei Bogodel said.
The expert cited the situation with Euroclear which holds a share of Russian assets. It was previously reported that Euroclear is considering filing a lawsuit against the EU in case of confiscation of Russian investors’ funds.
“What is happening is an act of theft, although Euroclear is resisting fiercely. Until now, we knew nothing about it, yet it is a very serious company that is fundamental to the financial system of almost the entire European Union,” he emphasized.
Andrei Bogodel noted that Poland, the Baltic states, Romania, and the European Commission support this decision. At the same time, there is no unanimous opinion on this issue in the countries of Old Europe. The expert is convinced that the seizure of Russian funds from Euroclear will deal a blow to the organization itself. “It holds money from all over the world, including financial corporations,” Andrei Bogodel stressed.
