"On Point"
MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – Military exercises held in Belarus have been consistently accompanied by disinformation from Western countries, Nikolai Buzin, Member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel, commenting on the EU’s reaction to the Belarus-Russia joint exercise Zapad 2025.
“It all stems from the policies the European Union has pursued towards the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. That is the root of the problem. For the past decade, such events have always been accompanied by attempts at disinformation and negative rhetoric... That has always been the case,” Nikolai Buzin stated.
He linked the EU’s reaction to its own internal economic challenges: “Politicians need to explain to their taxpayers and citizens why they have to live worse and pay for militarization. That’s the real basis of this hysteria.”
The MP believes EU leaders are trying to condition their populations to a certain level of escalation. “When people are told every day that they are about to be attacked, they start to get used to it. In this case, information resources are being used to stir up tension. It doesn’t matter what’s actually happening: what matters is how it’s presented. The goal is to create an image of an escalating threat,” he added.
Nikolai Buzin also pointed out that some in the EU have even speculated that military units involved in the exercise could be used to attack Europe. According to him, Ukraine and NATO have contributed to inflaming of the situation.
