"On Point"
MINSK, 27 December (BelTA) - European civilization cannot exist without obtaining free or very cheap resources from its colonies, political analyst and publicist Dmitry Kulikov said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
Dmitry Kulikov noted that the world is facing a global crisis of Western civilization, which has been ongoing for “a considerable number of decades”. However, in the publicist’s opinion, this crisis has not yet reached its peak.
“For now, problems of all kinds are accumulating. Economic problems, because the situation of Western countries, primarily the USA, has no solution. Since there is no solution, and any surgical operation could lead to the patient’s death, it all hangs in the balance and continues to build up. And it’s hanging by a thread, at any moment that thread could snap,” Dmitry Kulikov is convinced.
The expert believes the roots of these problems lie in the past. “European civilization, as we know it and which many fell in love with, and which Ukraine still cannot break free from, was formed during the period of great geographical discoveries on the fundamental basis of plundering the open world,” he pointed out. “Without plunder, that is, without obtaining free or very cheap, essentially free resources, this civilization cannot exist. To restructure and find another path, acknowledging resource limitations, is an incredibly difficult task. If you’ve lived for 500 years at the expense of others, you don’t even know how to think differently.”
Dmitry Kulikov noted that the USA has at least a faint, if ghostly, chance, as it possesses its own resource base. “There are things there to hold onto. But the western peninsula of the Eurasian continent, which we called Europe, is, from my point of view, doomed. Its 500-year cycle is over,” declared the political commentator. “Nothing good lies ahead. Will they manage to maintain themselves as nation-states? To what state will these countries descend? Or will they attempt to unite Europe under a new type of fascism? A war of all against all on this territory is highly probable.”
Belarusians and Russians, according to Dmitry Kulikov, have become self-sufficient countries and peoples, a self-sufficient civilization capable of moving forward, relying on their own strength and without closing themselves off from the world.
