"On Point"
MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) - Once the conflict in Ukraine is over, a new armed conflict may erupt in Central Asia, which will be a terrorist war in fact, Russian historian, director of the Institute for Systemic and Strategic Analysis Andrei Fursov said in a new episode of the project V Teme [On Point] on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“When the conflict in Ukraine is over, nothing will end there. We will face new challenges - the Arctic, Central Asia, and many more. You don't have to be a prophet, you need to know history and the logic of the development of social systems. In the mid-1990s, I said that entry and exit are mirrored in different systems and epochs. The entrance to the era of modernity and capitalism was the Thirty Years’ War. It was a world war, no doubt, but not the one of the 20th century. There were four local conflicts stretched over 30 years,” said Andrei Fursov.
The historian assumed that the way out of the age of capitalism would also be a thirty-year war. It is not going to be a single global conflict, but several local conflicts. The first such conflict was the war in Syria, Andrei Fursov believes. The second was the armed conflict in Ukraine. It is difficult to say where the third local conflict will be, the historian stated. Three years ago, however, the USA transferred two brigades of jihadists from Pakistan to the Tajik border.
“Why Pakistan? Afghan jihadists do not want to fight outside Afghanistan. Moreover, the Taliban, who have now come to power, want to be friends with Russia. Jihadists of Pakistan are willing to fight beyond their country’s borders. I would not be surprised if once the conflict in Ukraine is over, we will see something of the kind in Central Asia,” Andrei Fursov said.
According to the historian, a terrorist war has recently emerged as a form of warfare: “As Ukraine's position weakens, they will transfer the war to our territory. This will be a terrorist war. Like Bandera supporters did with respect to, for example, Poland back in the time. We are facing the same, I think. This should be resolutely suppressed. We need to act absolutely ruthlessly against terrorists.”
