MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – The Arctic is endowed with plentiful mineral resources, which is why U.S. President Donald Trump is showing interest in Greenland, historian Yevgeny Spitsyn said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
“Trump has quite brazenly and aggressively embarked on the policy of mercantilism and protectionism. And hence the following logic: we don't need Europe, we don't need all these continents at all. We don't need Asia, Europe, Africa. The USA's areas of interest are North America and South America. That's why he says: bring Mexico here, make Canada the 51st state, and so on,” Yevgeny Spitsyn said.

Speaking about the USA's claims to Greenland, the expert noted that Donald Trump needs this island for a completely different reason. “Why does he need Greenland? Because the Arctic has some of the biggest reserves of raw materials in the world. They want to extract resources in the Arctic shelves,” he added.

Despite the fact that the United States plans to zero in on the American continent, Donald Trump is not going to give up on his plans to destroy its competitors. “First of all, this is Europe, because before all these events happened, it was America's main competitor in the global market. And, for example, in terms of potential, they were not much inferior to the Americans, not to mention human resources,” Yevgeny Spitsyn said.
