Expert dwells on shortsighted policy of Lithuanian authorities

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) - The Lithuanian authorities have ruined their country’s economy with their shortsighted decisions, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Lithuania has very successfully ruined its entire economy. They have nothing to live on. They have few options left for solving their problems. They could resort to artificially raising wages in order to increase the tax burden and replenish the budget,” Aleksandr Tishchenko said. “The second option is grants and investments, primarily in military-purpose infrastructure.”

To support his point, the expert recalled that Lithuania recently requested loans from the European Union to fund defense projects worth €6.375 billion under the EU program SAFE (Security Action for Europe).

“What kind of defense for Lithuania are we talking about? Let’s look at things frankly and directly. Lithuania invents problems against which it can raise certain defense issues. And then, based on this, they beg for budgets so that Europe will pay for something. There is no economic or political literacy, nor normal goal-setting there,” Aleksandr Tishchenko is convinced.

He named Vilnius’ decision to close borders with Belarus as one of the shortsighted moves. This primarily damaged the Lithuanian economy and jeopardized the work of freight carriers.
