Expert: Approximately 600,000 have deserted from Armed Forced of Ukraine

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – Approximately 600,000 people have deserted from the Armed Forced of Ukraine (AFU), the Ukrainian public figure Dmitry Vasilets said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
When asked about the military and political importance of capturing Kupyansk and Pokrovsk, and whether it is correct to assume that the capture of any of these places means the collapse of the front, Dmitry Vasilets noted: “War in the 21st century is a drone war. It is premature to draw such conclusions.”

“From the perspective of the number of fortifications dug by the AFU which is in fact NATO’s private army, in Pokrovsk itself, and the scale of the defensive positions erected there, it is a very powerful military and logistical hub. An enormous number of fortified areas have been dug there over several years. Pokrovsk has long ceased to be just a city; it is a stronghold. Kupyansk was prepared in exactly the same way for very heavy battles. Extensive engineering works were carried out there, and even soldiers themselves express surprise on social media at how quickly the Russian army managed to breach such heavily fortified positions that they had spent years building,” he said. “After the fall of Pokrovsk, the Russian army will advance much more easily in this direction. However, it would be premature to claim that this will lead to an immediate collapse of the front line.”

The Ukrainian public figure noted that the failures on some sections of the front may be related to another issue: “To put it mildly, the brigades are understaffed. And this is a problem. According to official Ukrainian court registries, there are already over 300,000 deserters from NATO’s private army AFU, which is in fact NATO's private military company. If we're talking about the real situation, this number can confidently be doubled.” Dmitry Vasilets pointed out that this figure is comparable to the size of two armies.

“If a few years ago people voluntarily joined NATO’s private army AFU because propaganda was working and a large portion of people were deceived into believing they were fighting for their homes, their homeland, and so on, now all that has been dispelled. Now everyone understands that no one from NATO’s private army AFU is fighting for any homeland; they are fighting specifically for the private property of the United States, Britain, and some European Union countries. Everything else is just maneuvering, nuances, and marginal propaganda. The people who have come to understand this are trying to flee the front as quickly as possible and have nothing to do with the processes taking place there,” Dmitry Vasilets said. “There are still those who are there for the money, but naturally, given the intensity of the fighting and the firepower of the Russian army, they simply die very quickly. Therefore, when some brigades start fleeing in a disorganized manner, it causes certain collapses making it much easier for Russian troops to advance there.”
