Electricity supply restored in 900 communities of Belarus

MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – Power engineers restored electricity supply in 900 settlements of Belarus within the past 24 hours, BelTA learned from Belenergo.

“Power supply was restored in 900 settlements affected by bad weather. The work was ongoing from 6:00 on 29 December till 6:00 on 30 December. All in all, 714 people and 282 units of equipment were involved. Specialists of the Emergencies Ministry helped power engineers continue their work in the dark time of the day. Power engineers are making every effort to restore power supply for all households as soon as possible,” Belenergo informed.

On 29 December, bad weather brought strong winds, icing and black ice to Gomel Oblast, Mogilev Oblast and Vitebsk Oblast. Massive outages occurred in the main and distribution grids. Gomel Oblast and Brest Oblast were hit the most. The outages were caused by icing on trees and power lines, strong winds, falling trees, and failure in power lines.

Specialists embarked on restoring power supply as soon as they received reports of outages. The work lasted until late at night and is ongoing. Operational and maintenance personnel were called to work.
